I have over 300 books on my book shelves.
Books are my passion
and so the number 300 doesn't seem like a lot to me.
Every few months
I do my best to weed out some of my books.
I take them to a used book store
and if I can't get rid of them there then I donate them.
If it weren't for my husband complaining
I would never get rid of any of my books.
Mostly, I read and own non-fiction.
I love learning and so I would say the bulk of my book collection
is in the personal finance and leadership and success category.
I also have a large collection in
astrology, the paranormal, books on writing & true crime.
My dream house which I envision in my mind
has a built in library from floor to ceiling
with sliding ladders to reach the top.

A Venetian Affair is my all time favorite love story.
The author re-created this true love story
based on the letters he discovered written by the couple.
The man in the story is the author's ancestor.
The astrology books...
Love Cards, Encycolpedia of Dreams, & Encyclopedia of Birthdays
are three books I constantly read.
They sit on my side table next to my chair in the living room.
Of course,
I have a whole shelf dedicated to astrology books alone.
The other book showcased in my mosaic
is a book I started a few months back
but
never finished reading
because lately
I find I get carried away reading blogs.
I spend hours a day
hopping from one blog to another
and then re-visiting blogs that have updated more than once
in a day.
But I love my books.
I like owning them.
I like to touch them,
smell them,
mark up the pages with yellow highlights
and sometimes I scribble notes in the margins.
Of course,
I only mark up the pages in non-fiction books.
They are my learning tools
and I find myself referencing them often.
What do you like to read, and why?
Here's a recommendation:
Little Red House where Mary hosts Mosaic Monday.
You won't be disappointed.
Always fun to see what others have on their shelves. I tend to buy books at yard sales all summer.. for 25 to 50 cents each. That usually grants me enough reading material for over the long winter. :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we are also up to our ears in books... :) I love mysteries, decorating and gardening books, and (OK, I'll admit it) trashy romance novels. Thanks for sharing your collection at Mosaic MOnday. :)
ReplyDeleteTHat is a smart mosaic. I had to look twice before I saw it. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day

Stopping by from Mary's to say hello. Hope you have a great week!
Hi Jarielynn,
ReplyDeleteI too love books but find myself most recently distracted by reading blogs. But I love blogs and there are so many out there and so many different topics! I get overwhelmed. I have a list of the books I've read this year in the sidebar of my blog and I have about 4 I haven't added yet.
I don't usually read books a 2nd time though and I admire you for doing so and for reading non-fiction books. When I read non-fiction it's usually autobiographies.
But I love all books and find that when I start one I have to read it to the end as I feel that someone went to a lot of trouble to write and publish that book and respectfully it's the least I can do to read it...lol. Some might find this a little Obsessive/Compulsive, but that's ok with me.
Like your blog very much and plan to become a follower, please stop by and say hello.
Thank you for the link to the blogger community shopping blog post!
ReplyDeleteAs for books - I usually love whatever one I'm reading at the moment- just finished Best American Short Stories, but it wasn't one of my faves this time, alas...however, I had some faves!
I tend to gravitate toward womens fiction. Yet I buy a lot of gardening and decorating books too.

I have been a fan of mysteries since I picked up my first Nancy Drew, over 50 years ago. I've read most of Agatha Christie's, some more than once. I read mysteries, just for fun. James Patterson (Alex Cross), John Grisham and others.
ReplyDeleteI also like to read biographies and history.
My fondest memory, as a child, was walking to the library in my old hometown. We drove through there, not long ago. We went by the old library building which is now home to a law firm. I was able to go back into that building around 2003, when it was still a library. Brought back lots of good memories.
I have lots of books. My children are avid readers. We pass books around, quite often.
Hi Jarielynn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting. I actually work in Bakersfield and commute from Shafter every day. I so love Shafter. Hate the commute but worth it to live in this lovely small town. Did you go to high school in Bakersfield?
I probably have that many around here too. It's that time again to weed them out but sometimes I just hate parting with them. You are so smart to read so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Jarielyn - I love books too. I've collected children's books for years. I just love them.
ReplyDeleteI too get distracted reading blogs...my husband calls it "visiting my virtual friends." :) I think I'll read that romance novel. Sounds interesting.
I'll check out Mary's blog too.
Your dream house sounds like mine. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love to read too, particularly historical fiction. I love the interesting bits of history, the mysteries surrounding the people who made history, and the theories about what the artist was thinking when he made now priceless art.
Ghostwalk, The Terror, The White Queen, those are all current favorites.
:)
You and I are on the same page - no pun intended. I love books. They always make me feel safe and secure, for some reason. I love fiction but lately have been reading lots of Budhism, and books recommended by Trish - who is a wonderful source of inspiration. I have many in storage, but have started my own library of reference books here with only getting rid of novels.
