A Drive Into The Past

Saturday after photography class

the hubby and I went for a drive,

as we usually do.

We ended up in Boulder City

and we were delighted to discover

a car show going on at the park.

I took lots of photos

but I decided to share just one.

I hope you will click on the photo

so that you can see all the detail.

I snapped this photo because I loved the window display.

I thought it was so creative and adorable.

Look how shiny and reflective the paint color is.

If you look in the sideview mirror

you can see me snapping the photo

while my husband is standing next to me.

We had a delightful day

but my feet were killing me

as I was wearing my 3 1/2 inch heeled boots.

The first time all summer that I have worn heels

and we end up walking around.

Maybe I should learn to keep a spare pair of flats in the car

at all times.

September Warmth

Today I had lunch with an old friend.

Afterwards, we sat on a bench outside

and basked in the sunshine,

feeling the warmth of its rays on our shoulders.

We spotted this bee,

flitting from flower to flower.

Enjoying the beauty of the outdoors

ABC Wednesday~ J is for........

Today is ABC Wednesday
Each week a different letter of the alphabet is represented.
This week it's the letter J.
Today, I am showcasing jars; Money jars to be exact.

This particular jar is used specifically for found money.

Justin (that's the hubby) and I, started this tradition a few years ago.

When we see a penny on the ground or any other coin, we pick it up.

Upon picking up the found coin

we say aloud the following words to attract more,

"I am a money magnet"

As soon as we get home, we toss it into the jar.

At the end of the year,

we count it up to see how much money we found on the ground.

The first year we did this, we counted $28.00.

Now $28.00 doessn't seem like a lot of money,

however, this is money that is just tossed out like trash.

We make it a habit now to look down when we walk.

We look all around,

skimming parking lots, sidewalks, bare fields,

inside buildings, parking garages, etc.

I found 32 cents on Monday at the river.  It was right there in the dirt.

Justin actually found two pennies in the water.

Don't get me wrong.

We don't make  a job out of doing this.

We just keep our eyes peeled while we're out and about.

Instead of counting up at the end of the year,

we decided to just keep filling up the jar with found money until it's full.

It's amazing how much money you can gain just by looking around.

We also find bills that we throw in the jar.

This isn't really my vacation money.

But it is where I save all of my 50 cent pieces.

I collect money banks of all kinds.

Today, you get to see just the money jars.

It's ABC Wednesay, afterall.

And today, is the letter J.

Good wishes to everyone from JarieLyn and Justin.

Now go visit the crew over at ABC Wednesday to see how creative

and imaginitive other participants are.

Have a jolly good day.

Friday My Town Shoot-Out (Domestic Animals)

I love taking photos of my dog, so you will see a few of her in this post as well as some other animals.

Last week I took Sasha to Tule Springs, our state park in Las Vegas.

She thoroughly enjoyed being in the water, which by the way isn't allowed,
but I just couldn't deny her the pleasure.

She felt so good after her swim that she just decided to interrupt or stroll,
and roll around in the grass.

In addition to all the beautiful ducks in the park,
we saw many peacocks.
Sasha went wild for the peacocks and wanted to chase them.
She kept whining and pulling on her leash,
but I didn't let her get too close.

Isn't it a beauty?  No wonder Sasha wanted a closer look.

Last weekend the hubby and I went to another state park, Spring Mountain Ranch.
While there, I took photos of the cow and the horses on the ranch.

My hubby was calling the horse over to us and the horse obliged.

This is the lone cow.  He has no buddies except for the two horses.

I also drove around earlier this evening and captured these horses through my lens.

Right next door to this property,
Sasha spotted another dog and spoke to it in dog language.

I don't know what they were saying, it was all jibberish to me.
After our drive,
We headed on over to the local park for our evening walk and we spotted all kinds of doggies.
Sasha was in doggie heaven.

I know I've gone a little overboard with all of the dog pictures,
but that's mostly what's in my neighborhood.
With that being said, I'm going to rock the boat and give you just a couple of more.
I cannot leave this post without showing you how Sassy Sasha is after a bath.

I hope I didn't give you too much.
I'm like a parent showing off photos of her children.
Please accept my apologies If I show too much pride.
I love my Sasha.  She's sweet and sassy and sometimes, a little snobish.

I hope you enjoyed my photos, but if you didn't you can always check out more variety
Well, why don't you head on over there anyway.  They've got a great bunch of photographers on board.
I promise there will be plenty to see and enjoy.

Mosaic Monday

Mosaic Monday ~ A trip to Spring Mountain Ranch State Park
All of the above photos were taken yesterday on an excursion to Spring Mountain Ranch, which was owned by Howard Hughes at the time of his death.  The ranch has quite a history beginning in the early 1800's.
The main ranch house was built in 1948 by Chester Lauck, a radio personality.
In 1955 Vera Krupp, a german actress bought the ranch from Chester and lived there
until 1967 when she sold the property to Howard Hughes.  There is an interesting story about Vera Krupp being robbed at her residence on the ranch.  The thieves stole a $275,000 ring, pulling it off her finger and actually drawing blood.  Also, in the robbery they took about $700,000 in cash.  The case history is on file with the FBI.  Read all about it here.
The ranch now belongs to the state and is open to the public.
There is a large lush grassy area for picnics.
There are walking trails and horseback riding trails;
a gift shop;
tours of the main house and the old historic buildings on the grounds.
I have passed by this place about a thousand times and I never knew that any of the historical buildings existed.
My husband and I were taking a little drive yesterday and we ended up at the ranch on impulse.
It was well worth the five dollars it cost to get in.
We spent quite a bit of time walking the trails.
My sore legs are proof of that, in addition to the photos I snapped along our walk.
Please visit Mary at little red house for more creative mosaics.

Friday My Town Shoot-Out ~ Aged and Weathered

This week's theme was chosen by Pauline at The Paddock.  We are shooting things that are aged and weathered.  I didn't get out this week so I was going to rely mostly on my archives, however, some of the other participants shoot-outs inspired me to pick up my camera and walk around the perimeter of my own yard.  The first thing I noticed was how weathered our post is.  It needs a paint job, awfully bad.

Next up is Sasha's stuffed animal that she used to love to play with.
She buries all of her toys under a bush and hides them really well, however,
this little critter was out in the open on the patio.
It definitely looks like it's a bit aged and weatherd.
Just around the corner to the side of the house we come to the door that leads to the garage.
As you can tell, we are terrible at keeping the house looking spiffy and new.
Then there is a pile of rusted steel that's been outside for a couple of years now.
I think the hubby bought it as part of his truck project.
As I mentioned above, the steel was used in a truck project.
The hubby was building a flatbed for his aged and weathered toyota truck.
Below is the front of the truck.
Beleive it or not, he still drives it to work every now and then.
Truth be told,  I will not be seen in it.
Thank goodness it's just a project truck and not his main vehicle.
Next up is a blurry photo of the truck.
And now, from my archives here a few of my favorite photos.
First up is an old barn that looks like it's just about has his last day.
The above photo was taken somewhere in Wyoming in 2006.
The next few photos were found on a deserted street or town in Wyoming.
YOU MUST CLICK ON PHOTOS TO SEE DETAILED IMAGES
ESPECIALLY IN THE PHOTO BELOW.
THERE IS A REALLY COOL OLD TRUCK
REMEMBER TO CLICK ON PHOTOS
Next up is Oregon.
My brother-in-laws barn pictured below
Next door to his ranch is a miniature pony ranch.  I'm just throwing this last photo in because I think the ponies are really cute.  No relation to this subject.
Go to My Town Shoot-Out to see what others are shooting this week.
