Friday My Town Shoot Out ~ Sunrise/Sunsets

This weeks shoot out theme was chosen by Sherri.  Sunrise/Sunsets are the target.

All week I have been trying to catch the sun going down, but missed it every time.

Still feeling disappointed that I had nothing,

I decided to chase a sunrise this morning.

I had high hopes and visions of parking on a hill overlooking the desert

and capturing the most beautiful sunrise ever.

Well, it didn't quite happen like that and the wait was way too long.

I got fidgety in my parking spot, which by the way was kind of in the middle of nowehere.

I snapped a picture while it was still dark, but there was a little pink in the sky.

Then I got creeped out because after I snapped my photo

I saw movement in the distant to my right.

There was another car parked over there and I could vaguely make out a man

moving some white buckets.

My imagination went into overdrive and I was thinking dumping ground for bodies.

I started the car and got the hell out of there.

I drove to another spot and parked just off the freeway which was a little closer to home.

I felt a little safer.

Wouldn't you know though, that right where the sun was rising

there was a big piece of construction right in the way.

Well, it's Las Vegas afterall and if truth be told

I think the desert is ugly, even the supposedly pretty parts.

But I do my best to portray it in a better light.

Without further ado, here is my sunrise from this morning.

Yes, there's a lot of road in the photo.

I didn't know where else to go.

Oh, and just when I was getting comfortable shooting at the sun

my battery died, so that's all folks.

  1. You made me smile and I got cold chills when you described being creeped out...law enforcement officers swear that if we pay attention to those "creeped out" feelings, we can save ourselves from something ugly.

The sunrise is pretty no matter what it comes up over, JarieLyn. Good job!

  4. I like that first shot - and that creepy guy is why I always take my dog when I'm shooting in deserted places.

  5. I hate feeling spooked like you did!

  6. I enjoy reading the story behind the photos. I thought of doing that but there was no excitement or anything interesting to recount. I think you did great!!

  7. You did a great job with those shots. I love the colors and sun flare. Ahhhhh.... I'm glad no creepy guy bothered you...I hate that. Once when I was alone I felt like one was following me so I pretended to talk on my cell hoping that would be a deterent til I got in the car...I didn't even have the cell with me...just pretended.

  9. Danger, not a good thing, but your pics did turn out really cool, and I think we all bring something different to the table, so it works!

  11. You got some good shots, Jarielyn. We visited Vegas last year... umm it is different.

I will eventually get back to photography. I'm still having a bit of problem with my shoulder and just get frustrated when I get so many blurry pictures.

Thank you for commenting on my blog. If you need a neighbor in Farmville or Farm Town just look me up. There is only one of me.... so just search for Zaroga Goff. I do little more than farm there :-)

  13. I love the first one the best... the city lights really give it some ambiance, with that glow just creeping over the mountains.

Speaking of creepy, glad you left that first spot. Go with your gut instincts every time!!

  15. GORGEOUS shots JarieLyn!!! You portrayed the "ugly desert" beautifully. :-)

Now, if we lived near to each other, I would certainly accompany you. I'm an early morning guy (4am-ish). I'm glad you got the hell out of there. That would creep me out too!

  19. I admired you being patient waiting the sun to raise. We are opposite, I always catch the sunset but I rarely catch the sunrise. I guess the sunset is not viewable in your area that you need to go far to catch the sunset, am i right?

I taught I already commented here but I forgot. sorry. Just got back in normal now today.

  21. I sure hope you charged those batteries by nightfall because if the sunset is anything like this sunrise, it was a beauty.
