Imposter!

I was so excited when we walked into a nut and candy store in the middle of the desert and I spotted these candy cigarettes that I so loved from my childhood.   My taste buds recalled the remeniscent flavors of a cross between teaberry and cloves gum with a hint of pepto bismo.  Yeah, I know..... what kind of person remenisces about the flavor of pepto bismo?  Apparently one whose memory isn't quite what it used to be.  I'm a sucker for nostaligia.  I didn't have to battle with myself for too long before I decided to buy the candies that I really did not need.  Sugar is not really my thing, unless it's in a doughnut or a cake.  But I gave in and boy what a mistake that was.  These cigarettes didn't have a hint of pepto bismo flavor infused into the sticks.....more like Maalox and chalk with something that was trying to emulate a minty taste but not quite making it.  Blah!  These were not the same sugary treats I remember from my childhood.  These things were an imposter.

  1. Too funny. When you first described the taste, I thought.. that's not what I remember at all. When you described the Imposter taste... THAT's what I remember. You must have had a better class of candy cigarettes than I did as a kid. ;)

  2. I always thought they tasted like chalk on the out side and bubble gum with a fruit taste in the middle. I probably would of wanted to but them too.

  4. I remember the taste you speak of JarieLyn, and it was a Pepto Bismol taste. Wow, you can't find those anywhere anymore. I also loved the wax coke bottles with the sugary liquid inside.

  5. I remember those! Do you remember that if you blew in them a little candy smoke came out?
Look at the bright side...at least you have the box!

  6. I didn't know they even made these anymore, no matter what flavor. How politically incorrect! So what day is the big day?

  7. omg I LOVE candy cigarettes. I did not know you could still find them. I wouldn't even mind if they taste like chalk. Remember the little pink ends?

I was really disappointed at age 21, when I tried my first real cigarette.

  8. I didn't even know they made these any more! And I do recall them tasting like sweet chalk--not really all that tasty, but I liked pretending to puff on them, anyway. They did have a powdered coating that sort of looked like smoke , too.
