Yay, I am so happy to be participating this week. It seems like I've been away for an eternity, and as much as I'd like to write about my woes, I won't bore you with the details. So without further ado here are my photos for this week's Friday Shoot Out. Oh by the way, you may notice some similarities between my photos and Gayla's photos as we both ended up in the same place at different times. I was originally going to photograph train cars with graffiti, but when the hubby and I drove out to where they usually are, those train cars were gone. I was so disappointed, but then I found all of these photos.
This graffiti artist gave me permission to take his photo while painting.
Night was beginning to fall and I noticed when we pulled away in the car the lights were turned on.
Darn!

I Love the one on ply wood. It's great that we have a place people are able to do this and it looks great! Most of the time I don't like graffiti. You got alot that I didn't even see. And I love that you even seen one of the artist there.
ReplyDeleteThose are pretty incredible - I think it's so impressive what some people can do with a can of spray paint and a little bit of time.
ReplyDeleteCool--you actually found someone in the moment of creation!
ReplyDeleteWOW, that's some fabulous graffiti! Stuff like that is great. I'm actually happy to see people do some serious art, in spite of the poor reputation that graffiti has. Down with tagging! Up with art!
ReplyDeleteYou got some nice shots JL. These artists have talent.

They're all fine pieces of art.. as graffiti and photography but I especially love the one which shows brick/stone wall, chain link fence and a wood post. A wonderful collection of textures and colours in that image. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteLas Vegas has some seriously interesting street art. Graffiti artists have an etiquette about who can paint over somebody else's work, and you have captured one person's response to a breach: "earn your spot" is written on the wall. Good one, Jarie Lyn.
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful ones, are they drawn with permission?
ReplyDeleteIn Singapore, they are very strict and send vandals to prison. But thye have a few walls in the Youth zone for kids to draw. This is a great idea.
I'm sorry to say, some of these are an eyesore to me!
ReplyDeleteOoo I like some of these too!! Wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with NanU - Up with Art! Even if they may not be your taste of art, it's still much more art than tagging.
ReplyDeleteIn order to attempt to engage the students at my school, we once asked them to write a theme on the difference between art and graffiti. Where should the law draw the line? What should be allowed and what shouldn't? As you can guess, there were MANY different opinions, but at least everyone actually had an opinion!!! :)
Wow, you got graffiti in the making. Graffiti can be beautiful...not always but sometimes. And you captured some beauty.
ReplyDeleteThose are some great shots, J'Lynn.
ReplyDeleteThese are some awesome images of grafitti art you found in your town!
ReplyDeleteFunny, but I *almost* took a picture of a graffitied over yellow "yield" sign I saw while walking the dog today. I even had my camera in my pocket but was too lazy to take it out and shoot. It was a cool bunch of bananas design superimposed over the yield word.
Love these -- it's always fun to find quality street art.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately my eye for art isn't developed enough to appreciate even graffiti art. Like your photos, though, JarieLyn.
ReplyDeleteyou have very artistic graffiti in Vegas. nice shots!
ReplyDeleteyou got really nice collection of graffiti. they are so lively. i love colors. and for this, graffiti falls in art :)
